Knowing that I am an avid reader, many people give/loan/recommend books to me, many of them about dogs. A friend, with whom I exchange Dean Koontz books, loaned this one to me.
Having a dog narrate a story can be just a literary gimmick. (Wait. Tucker narrates his blog A Black Tri Day. It must be ok.) Stein's story is no gimmick. It is warm and touching. Enzo, a lab mix, has much to teach.
There are very few books that I feel deserve a second reading. This is one of them. I read it quickly, absorbed by the story line. I will buy myself a copy to read slowly and consider the wisdom.

It was a very good book, hard in places and sad too--just like life. I liked Enzo very much, and seeing things from his perspective. I think it is one you have to read more than once, as there is much you can miss the first time.
