Product Review:
Thom Somes’s book Knowing Your Pet’s Health: A Guide for Optimal Wellness from Snout-To-Tail is a valuable resource for every pet owner. The inspiration for the book came from a letter that appeared in Dear Abby in 2001. The letter had been written by a woman who wanted to warn others about the loss of a dog to a preventable accident. Since Pet First Aid and Care classes weren’t everywhere, Thom wanted to provide Dear Abby readers with another option. The purpose is to “assist you in creating and maintaining an‘Optimal Healthy Lifestyle’ for your pets.”
The “Snout-to-Tail Assessment” encourages a pet owner to take the time to determine what is “normal” for your pet. The book outlines 11 areas that should be checked on a regular basis, and also helps you determine your pets’s vitals. The chart in the center of the book can be copied, so you can record this information. (I’m keeping Tucker’s chart in our Ruff Wear First Aid Kit, where I also keep his health record from the vet.) By getting to know what “normal” is, you will be able to recognize more quickly when something is “not normal”.
To promote "caring, conscientious, responsible, and loving pet ownership", The Sensible Dog will include a copy of this book, as our gift to you, with every order over $100. (Or, purchase it on The Sensible Dog.)
