I once read an inspiring article the Vermont News Guide, in a local weekly paper. There is a non-profit agency , the Council on Aging for Southeastern Vermont , which provides services to people sixty years and older. They had helped an older man named Karl find housing, medical care, and financial stability. His one request was to remain independent. The advocate helped him accomplish this goal.
One day Karl brought home a little red bundle of fur that resembled a baby fox. He named the little dog “Foxy”. Soon, she was going everywhere with him, riding in his lap as he maneuvered around in an electric wheelchair. This little dog brought him great joy - and through her Karl made new friends. These became the source of comfort for him for the remainder of his life.
A small donation was made to the Council from Karl’s estate. The Council used the money to open a special account called “The Foxy Fund”. The purpose of this fund is to assist seniors (who live in Windham and Windsor counties in Vermont) with costs associated with animal care.
What a great idea! Animals provide their owners with such joy, companionship, and unconditional love. How sad that many senior citizens living on fixed incomes have trouble keeping up with the increased cost of pet care.
Maybe you would like to make a donation to “The Foxy Fund”. Or maybe, you’d like information so that you can set up a similar fund for the senior citizens in your area.
